It’s been a month since Barack Obama’s reelection, and Detroit Councilwoman JoAnn Watson figures it’s high time for paybacks. In a council meeting yesterday, Watson lectured her colleagues:
“After the election of Jimmy Carter, the honorable 😯 (Mayor) Coleman Alexander Young, he went to Washington, D.C. and came home with some bacon,” said Watson. “That’s what you do.”
“Our people in an overwhelming way supported the re-election of this president and there ought to be a quid pro quo and you ought to exercise leadership on that,” said Watson. “Of course, not just that, but why not?”
[Translation: Hey, we voted Obama “in president” – pay up!]
At the council next session, Ms. Watson will be providing
her co-members with nutritional advice
Detroit is creeping ever closer to bankruptcy. Saving it would require some very difficult work; taking responsibility for the crisis, facing fiscal realities and doing a lot of painful belt-tightening.
Now in all honesty, belt-tightening doesn’t appear to be an idea that’s ever occurred to Watson. So she’s merely doing what the Entitlement Class has been conditioned to do – via decades of Leftist propaganda – demanding more pork.
Easier to holler for more free stuff than to actually do anything productive to improve the mess created by more than half a century of Democrat administrations and their misguided policies.

Motown is in line to receive millions more in emergency funding from the state of Michigan – but it comes with strings. Last month it appeared that the city and Governor Snyder had reached an agreement: before Lansing forked over more cash, the city would implement certain cost-controlling measures ~
Among the requirements, the city must approve specific legal and consulting contracts, hire turnaround firms, modify ordinances dealing with purchasing and privatization, and outsource its health and workforce development departments.
However –
City Council President Charles Pugh said he disagreed with the “carrot and stick” tactics of the agreement, but “we’ll work and do everything we can to assist the mayor’s office in getting it done.”
Sure why should Michigan taxpayers be “entitled” to any assurance of fiscal oversight?
(By the way, the Detroit City Council never assists the mayor’s office in getting anything done.)

Oddly enough, while calling for more pork from Washington, Ms. Watson doesn’t seem to feel she’s in any way obligated to pay her “fair share” of taxes: Racist Tax Cheat Wants Bailout for Detroit ~
OCT 2009: I don’t see any tornado damage on the house justifying JoAnn Watson’s property tax bill of $68 for the last 10 years. That’s what the Detroit City Councilwoman has been paying while her neighbors paid $5-6,000. Seems to me a councilmember should be quite aware of what tax rates are, especially with Detroit’s budget shortfalls.
For someone who huffs and puffs about tax evaders, Watson was only going to pay the last 3 years, which is all the city can charge her. Media attention and her desire for reelection to council are the only reasons she paid her back taxes in full.
Watson doesn’t even practice social justice with her own constituents – unless she’s running for reelection.
No double-standards there.

In a recent article titled “How the Government Class Lives,” Daniel Greenfield provides an insightful look into the life and mindset of Ms. Watson – and millions more like her. How sad to give up self-reliance (self-respect?), and spend your short time on this earth engaged in what simply amounts to grievance-mongering and endless demands for perpetual hand-outs.
