… after watching this video you won’t be so sure.
 
Last Tuesday the House Judiciary Committee conducted a hearing to examine the limits of the chief executive‘s powers – “The President’s Constitutional Duty to Faithfully Execute the Laws.”
Here’s Trey Gowdy (R-SC) questioning Simon Lazarus, of the Constitutional Accountability Center, and then later Professor Jonathon Turley, George Washington University Law School ~
 

 
The issues this committee are dealing with, regarding the authority of the executive branch, are critically important to the survival of our Constitutional Republic ~
 
• Can a president “fail to enforce” any laws with which he personally disagrees?
• If he can dispense with immigration laws, or marijuana laws, or mandatory minimums (not to mention DOMA), can he also dispense with election laws?
• What are chief executive’s limits on prosecutorial discretion? Are there any?

Gowdy: Can the president suspend election laws?
 
Lazarus: No.
 
Gowdy: Why not? If he can suspend mandatory minimum and immigration laws, why not election laws?
 
Lazarus: Cause we live in a government of laws and the president is bound to obey them and apply them. 😯

Who knew? Clearly not the guy in the White House.

Here’s a question that really got Lazarus flustered ~

Gowdy: (With regard to mandatory sentences under marijuana laws) if you can put them in prison for less time than Congress says is the law, can you also do it for more time than Congress says is the law?
 
Lazarus: I don’t um..er…ah..well, I er… ah…

 
Yeah.
 
Professor Turley’s testimony was rather less obtuse. To paraphrase ~

If a president is ignoring entire categories of the law…
 
…not only is Congress being circumvented… it’s being denied the ability to enforce its inherent powers
 
and this body (Congress) is becoming less and less relevant.

The separation of powers is being totally subverted by this tyrannical executive.
But – oh well… ho-hum…

The only ones who seem to care are the crazy-racist-rightwing-radical-extremists. Those wacko Tea-Partiers who – can you believe it (?!) – have actually read the Constitution!
 
This administration has turned that document on its head. Worse – because the mainstream media is complicit, and the sheeple are so ill-informed – they’re getting away with it.
