Wondering just what the meltdown at the University of Missouri all about? Amazingly, no one seems to know for sure.
According to a CNN video posted by Tom S. Elliot at National Review ~
In the last 24 hours, various members of the Mizzou community have appeared on TV to offer their take. Explanations vary, with everyone seemingly nursing their own gripe.
Among the excuses are…
• Vaguely defined, alleged “systematic racism” at the university
• Residual angst from Ferguson – more than 100 miles away (racial animosity built on a pack of lies)
• “Mean” behavior from students and faculty alike
• A Confederate flag was spotted on campus
• The racial climate in our country (Didn’t do much good to elect a ½ black president did it? Weird that.)
• “Disparities in educational achievement”
• “Disparities in income”
• “Disparities in employment”
[So just as soon as we can magically create equality in achievement, employment and income – all human strife will cease. Who knew?]
• Campus is unsafe and un-inclusive
• Not enough faculty-of-color
Before caving in and resigning yesterday, university president Tim Wolfe attempted to “dialogue” with some protestors. Intent on throwing tantrums the students only shouted him down. A leftist associate professor naturally sided with the mob. Commenting on Wolfe’s remarks, Dr. Nicole Monnier said “I think that captures nicely the inadequacy of his responses.”
An opinion which I think that captures nicely the insanity of these malcontents.
David French, also writing at National Review, has an insightful analysis of the whole sorry affair ~
The idea that Wolfe presided over a racially insensitive educational empire is a sad joke. A timeline of racial outrages in Columbia is sparse indeed, showing two allegations of racial name-calling (on a campus with 35,000 students) and one disturbing incident in which a swastika was drawn on a dorm wall with human waste.
(BTW- there is no evidence that the poop swastika ever actually existed)
No rational, sentient human being believes system presidents can be responsible for what lunatics do with their own feces, or that they can prevent any given student from shouting racial slurs. Not even the worst communist dictatorships could control the speech of all their subjects. Wolfe couldn’t stop drunk undergraduates from hurling insensitive insults even if he established his own gulag and deployed commissars across campus.
What it’s really about is much larger than an irrationally, angry mob of feral youth.
This is a movement built from the ground up around power and coercion. They hate free speech because free speech represents nothing but a threat — a chance for dissenters to expose the bankruptcy of their ideas. They hate due process because due process stands in the way of class-based justice, of identity-based jurisprudence. They hate the orthodox Christian faith because it rejects their sexual ideology and places the human conscience beyond the reach of mortal man.
What’s really behind it is the same force to which Saul Alinsky dedicated “Rules for Radicals” ~
“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the
very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who
is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which),
the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did
it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”
