The fourth police officer to be charged in the April 2015 death of Freddie Gray was acquitted today – just like his three fellow officers. From the Daily Caller ~
So far, the efforts of Baltimore City State’s Attorney ➡
to turn the death of small-time hoodlum Freddie Gray into a springboard to national political prominence, coasting on the wake of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, has turned into a political version of the Dead Sea fruit. The trials have been disastrous:
Rice is the fourth (and highest-ranking) officer to stand trial in the case. The first trial, of Officer William Porter, ended in a hung jury and mistrial in December. Officers Edward Nero and Caesar Goodson Jr. were acquitted of all charges in bench trials in May and June, respectively.
The veracity of the city’s medical examiner has been called into question. The prosecutors have been sanctioned for withholding evidence. The courtroom conduct of the Baltimore prosecutors is sort of what you would expect of a Kardashian reality show conducted in legal garb.
With the van driver and the senior officer on the scene not merely acquitted but vindicated it is hard to see how (Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn) Mosby presses on with more of this nonsense. But she will.
Of course she will. Because truth is irrelevant at all levels of government these days, especially when you’re focused on peddling anger and divisiveness, and exacerbating racism.
