Nate Boyer, former Seattle Seahawk and Green Beret, has an excellent response to Colin Kaepernick’s clueless disrespect for the American flag and national anthem ~
[This is an excerpt only – Read the letter HERE]
In 2004, I witnessed genocide firsthand in the Darfur region of Sudan. The fact that hate and oppression still exist at that level in our world really hurts me. I met countless young Africans who were enamored with America and the opportunities that exist here. Those people would have given anything to experience what I had grown up with, even just for one day.
I joined the Army upon returning to the U.S. because I believed people like that were worth fighting for. De Oppresso Liber (“To Free the Oppressed”) is the Army Special Forces motto, and the reason I wanted to become a Green Beret. I didn’t enlist to fight for what we already have here; I did it because I wanted to fight for what those people didn’t have there: Freedom.
I am in no way political, but I’m proud that we have an African-American president, and that I got to serve under him. Overcoming racism at home is a slow process, and we still have a long way to go, but most of us are trying. That’s what sets us apart from so many other places. In this country, no matter who you are, where you come from, what color you are, you can try […]
Even though my initial reaction to your protest was one of anger, I’m trying to listen to what you’re saying and why you’re doing it. When I told my mom about this article, she cautioned me that “the last thing our country needed right now was more hate.” As usual, she’s right […]
I look foward to the day you’re inspired to once again stand during our national anthem. I’ll be standing right there next to you. Keep on trying … De Oppresso Liber.
Depsite the extent of global connectivity these days, it seems so many people have been miseducated under our government school system that they have no true awareness of a world outside of themselves. (Do you think Kaepernick could find Darfur on a map?) Ignorant of history, geography, and even most current events (beyond celebrity la-la land) they’re incapable of developing any sense of perspective. Thus, while he thinks he’s taking some noble, self-righteous stand, Kaepernick’s is a very short-sighted, selfish way of looking at life.
Thank God we still have Americans like Nate Boyer whose priorities are grounded in reality; patriots who don’t sit down in protest, but are willing to stand UP, fight and sacrifice for freedom and liberty around the world.

Army Ranger Vet Tells Colin Kaepernick What He Should Be Doing Instead of Sitting Out Nat’l Anthem ~
“To disrespect the country that has afforded him the opportunities and fortunes he acquired is only made more offensive by the fact that his life is the personification of the ideals I see in the American flag and National Anthem: a biracial child, raised by white parents, and who has accomplished much despite his “oppression.” In how many more nations around the world can a story like that come to fruition?”
