Random links of interest, concern or curiosity from the past week or so, that deserve at least a SHORT mention:

The Burkini is a Visible Sign of This Declaration of War ~ (Translated from German and posted at GatesofVienna) In case it’s still not obvious ~

Next to the headscarf, the hijab, the niqab, the burka, next to beard and nightgown and crochet cap, the burkini is one more uniform of these religious warriors. The so-called disguises show a worried and increasingly baffled society the status of their Islamization, and to the Muslims they signal how far they can go without meeting any opposition.

Brexit Boom: Pound Up On Euro And Dollar Two Months After Vote ~ Wait – what? You mean all the doom and gloomers were wrong?

Taiwan’s imminent population decline ~ Another East Asian nation along with South Korea, Singapore and Japan, Taiwan that has had low birth rates for so long that it is facing population decline ~

This ageing, declining population will place large strains on the economy and society. At the moment there are 5.6 working aged people for every elderly person; by 2061 this number will have plummeted to 1.3. How the elderly are to be cared for, let alone paid for by that time is unclear unless things change.

Marriage makes men better: the economic benefits of settling down ~ Oddly enough, somehow God’s model for human relationships always works out better than humans’. W. Bradford Wilcox provides a comprehensive look at the positive effects of marriage on individuals and by extension, society overall ~

The bottom line is that marriage is an institution that encourages men to settle down by engendering a responsibility ethic, by fostering monogamy, and by connecting them to a partner with a stake in their personal well-being and their professional success.

Obama Kept His Promise, 83,000 Coal Jobs Lost and 400 Mines Shuttered ~ “Hope & Change” baby.

He’s decimated the military as well ~
Iran vessel ‘harasses,’ sails close to U.S. Navy ship in Gulf: U.S. officials ~ Any wonder so many retired military (and purged pro-America officers) support Trump?

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A U.S. Navy coastal patrol ship changed course after a fast-attack craft from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps came within 100 yards (91 meters) of it in the central Gulf on Sunday, U.S. Defense Department officials said on Tuesday.

It was at least the fourth such incident in less than a month.

And then there’s the Obama-Effect in Cuba~
Cuban Government Censors Text Messages Containing ‘Democracy,’ ‘Human Rights’ ~ Obama’s normalization of relations has done wonders for freedom and democracy in Castroland.

Sociologist: Gardening Spreads Racism, Fascism ~ What is it with leftie malcontents? Endlessly searching for villains ~

A sociology lecturer at the University of Westminster is claiming that panelists on a BBC radio show are covertly spreading racist and fascist messages when they talk about gardening.

Jeh Johnson’s victim story distorts facts of history ~ Progressives don’t just rewrite our collective history, their personal pasts must be altered to fit the narrative as well ~

Johnson claimed his grandfather was grilled by the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1949 about whether he was a member of the Communist Party. But that is in stark contrast with reality.

Because Famous Liberal Women Are Special, You Peasants ~ Different strokes for elite folks. Kurt Schlichter explains that Hillary Clinton and Lena Dunham simply aren’t subject to mere mortal conventions.

Ted Cruz’s statement on North Korea is everything Obama’s isn’t ~ While the feckless Obama condemned the nuclear test “in the strongest possible terms,” Cruz was a bit more direct ~

North Korea should be on notice that the United States will not tolerate their destabilizing aggression–and other rogue regimes pursuing nuclear capability like Iran should be on notice that we will not allow this history to repeat itself.
