[Yes, I’m still focused on abortion – because it’s THAT important.]
I’ve decided that the “D” in “Democrat” stands for death. Why else are they such ferocious advocates for free, unrestricted abortions for all?
Seriously, what do they have against unborn life in the womb? The more science has learned about fetal development, the more the Left’s “it’s just a blob of tissue” has been proven to be a lie; it’s a baby. But no matter, they just become ever more radical in demanding abortion “rights.”
The latest goal of the “Abortion Party” is the the repeal of the Hyde Amendment. This legislation has essentially been in place since 1976, three years after the disastrous Roe v. Wade ruling ~
The Hyde Amendment prohibits federal funding of abortions through Health and Human Services (i.e., Medicaid), except where the life of the mother is threatened by carrying the baby to term, or (as added by President Bill Clinton) in cases of rape or incest. Last week marked the 40th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, which has saved an estimated 2 million babies from being aborted.
Saving that many lives must be a bad thing to Democrats because, as Benjamin Wiker explains in this article at “To the Source”, their 2016 party platform is calling for full repeal of the amendment ~
The Democrat argument is that abortion is a right, a subset right of health care, therefore everyone should be able to get an abortion for any reason—and that means the federal government should pay for those who can’t afford it.
They disguise their radical agenda with feelgood terms like “healthcare” and “reproductive rights” – when reproduce is the last thing thy want people to do. And healthcare is a sham too. They couldn’t care less about the mental health of women who have had abortions.
The Democrat position really doesn’t even make sense from a political standpoint because, as Wiker points out, their extreme views are out of step with the majority of Americans. Public opinion has grown more pro-life over the years – not less.
“the majority of Americans,” as Gallup polls over the last twenty years show, do not support abortion under any circumstances. Only about 25-30% support this radical position of the Democratic Platform. If we add together those who say that we should not allow abortion under any circumstances (about 20%) with those who say that abortion should be legal only under certain circumstances (about 50%), we have about 70% of Americans supporting the Hyde Amendments restrictions. Derailing the Hyde Amendment means a minority forcing a majority to pay for what it finds morally unconscionable.
The Democrats’ pro-abortion arguments are as counterfeit as their position is immoral – as Ben Shapiro so aptly demonstrates in the following video ~
