Maduro was invited by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who called the meeting, to attend as a special observer. Maduro’s socialist government was among the loudest in Latin America protesting Trump’s declaration, in which he also announced Washington would move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Pérez became the 12th journalist to be killed in Mexico this year, according to the organization Reporters Without Borders. His death would make Mexico the most dangerous country in the world for journalists in 2017, according to the group’s numbers, tied with war-torn Syria.
 
Since 1992, 95 journalists have been killed in Mexico, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. In 43 of those cases the motive has been directly related to the victims’ work as a journalist. Six of those have been killed in 2017, making it a record year. Far too many murders across the country go unsolved.

In what proved to be a rather wild night despite the initially low-key billing, the Church Militant, a Catholic group founded by Michael Voris, held a Christmas carol event at the Ferndale, Michigan City Hall on Wednesday and were joined by a group of rowdy protesters that included self-described Satanists, pro-LGBT activists, and probably a few people who showed up just to see what would happen. The night ended up being a battle of the lyrics both sacred and profane of various Christmas-themed songs.
