Fascism on the rise again in Germany?

anti-SemitismGermanyWhile Germany still harbors a collective sense of guilt over the horrors of the Holocaust, it appears the country’s newest demographic doesn’t exactly share those feelings of remorse. In fact, the new Middle Eastern migrant population seems to be reprising last century’s anti-Semitism ~ German Anti-Semitism Chief Tells Jews: Your Fears over Influx of Muslim, Arab Refugees Legitimate ~

“We also have new phenomena (of anti-Semitism in Germany). We have refugees now, for example, or people of Arab origin who are bringing a different type of anti-Semitism into the country,” (German Chancellor Angela) Merkel told Israeli TV. “In the new government, we have for the first time appointed a commissioner for Jewish life in Germany and in the fight against anti-Semitism.”

There’s actually some interesting history here. Although it’s not widely known, many Arabs were aligned with – or at least sympathetic to – the Nazis, based on their shared loathing of Jews. As Ibn Warraq wrote in Defending the West, anti-Semitism is deeply ingrained in Islamic culture. “Mein Kampf” continues to be very popular in the Muslim world and many take the fakery “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” seriously.

Back in the 40’s, many Muslim leaders were quite cozy with Adolph. In fact, as Warraq explained ~

(T)he grand mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, met with Adolph Hitler to ask for German help in exterminating the Jews of the Muslim world […]

“Not only did he meet with Hitler in Berlin in 1941; he became the Arabic voice of Nazi Germany in all their broadcasts to the Arab world, exhorting Muslims to murder Jews and enact Hitler’s final solution.”

In 2017, there were 1,453 anti-Semitic incidents in Germany. Last week, two men wearing kippas were brutally attacked on the streets of Berlin. It has become increasingly dangerous for Jews to display their faith publicly.

In Berlin, more than 2,000 people participated in the so-called ‘kippa march’, a police spokesman said. Similar rallies were held in Cologne and other German cities […]

Germany is not alone in its struggle against hostility to Jews. France was shocked by the murder last month of a Holocaust survivor in a suspected anti-Semitic attack, and Britain’s main opposition Labour Party is embroiled in an anti-Semitism row.

However, the legacy of the Holocaust, in which the Nazis killed at least six million Jews, has left Germans with a special sense of responsibility.

Away from the larger demonstration, a small number of demonstrators (whose rally was authorized by police) were spat at and had their Israel flag snatched away. The group, comprised of Jews and non-Jews, had planned to march through a predominantly Muslim neighborhood. However, the police forced them to abandon the demonstration, saying it was too dangerous to continue.
