Old-earth evolutionists are convinced that universe began billions of years ago. They believe that all the organisms on the planet somehow began with a spontaneous life spark from somewhere – and then evolved into the almost inconceivable variety of species we find today. For the most part, they reject the Biblical account of creation – and a worldwide flood. Hmmm…
How exactly do trilobites fit into their scenario?
Long extinct, everything we know about these unique marine creatures has been gleaned from studying their fossils ~
They are mostly between 10 and 50 mm long (3/8 to two inches) although a few species attained a length of 750 mm (2 1/2 feet). Trilobites are characterized by a ridged carapace, or shell, made of chitin, divided into three lobes which give the class its name.
Some 20,000 different species have been identified. Sometimes portrayed as primitive organisms, trilobites were anything but. Consider just their compound eyes.
Human eyes – amazingly complex themselves – have just one lens. Some trilobites had more than 15,000 hexagon-shaped lenses in each eye. In several varieties, the eyes consisted of two different minerals precisely arranged to facilitate underwater vision.
Trilobites are one of the most common fossils found in the Cambrian strata. According to old-earthers they’ve been there 500 million years. But if they’re that old how did they possibly have time to evolve such complexity? As Creation-Evolution-Headlines points out ~
Trilobites had bilateral symmetry, specialized body segments, articulated limbs for mobility, and some of the most complex eyes known in marine invertebrates. No precursors to trilobites in earlier strata have been identified. The first trilobites were already fully formed with all their complex organs and structures. […]
Darwin predicted that life would become more diverse over time, like the branches on a tree. The pattern of trilobites in the fossil record is just the opposite: more diversity appears in the lower layers, and less diversity in the upper layers.
Once so ubiquitous that their fossils have been found on every continent, including Antarctica, yet how is it that none of these thousands of species evolved enough to prevent extinction? Might they have been wiped out in a worldwide flood? That’s what creation scientists believe – because that’s exactly what the evidence seems to show.
Trilobite fossils are producing some of the strongest evidence of catastrophic burial
A recent study found that many of these creatures were inundated rapidly while they were still alive!3 Numerous specimens are found in a rolled-up position—like giant roly-polies—to protect themselves from danger. However, a few varieties lacked the design to “lock their shells” and hold the ball-shaped position; these arthropods had to rely on their internal muscles to hold themselves in a rounded shape.
Everything we’ve discovered from trilobite fossils points to 1.) an intelligent designer, who equipped these unique creatures with the features they needed to thrive in their marine environment; 2.) organisms that appeared in the geologic record fully-formed; 3.) an ability to adapt to various conditions via natural selection; and 4.) to a worldwide, catastrophic flood.
Sorry Charlie (Darwin), trilobites confirm the existence of a Creator – not evolution.

Recently, paleontological research unearthed more trilobite complexity: a unique digestive anatomy found in some 270 specimens in the Wulongqing Formation (Guanshan Biota) in China. Some of these fossils “contradict previous assumptions about trilobite digestive systems.”
