Scientists’ Brain Farts Cause Global Warming

Did dinosaurs cause climate change? That’s the latest from the pseudo-science crowd as reported by the UK Mail Online: Huge creatures may have contributed to their own demise because they produced so much flatulence ~

Professor Graeme Ruxton of St Andrews University, Scotland, said the giant animals spent 150 years emitting the potent global warming gas, methane.

Large plant-eating sauropods would have been the main culprits because of the huge amounts of greenery they consumed.

Apparently the good professor jumped into a time machine, transported himself back to the late Jurassic period and traveled extensively to count sauropods and study the global climate conditions of that era. He even took along a camera:

Good grief! First they tell us cows are causing global warming, when in fact; Cow Flatulence May Reduce Greenhouse Gasses. And now we’re supposed to believe that dinosaurs tooted themselves into extinction?!

Instead of speculating about sauropod methane output and its effect on atmospheric conditions in the late Jurassic, maybe researchers like Professor Ruxton could focus their efforts on science that would actually benefit the earth’s current inhabitants. They could start by studying our planet’s incredibly diverse present-day flora and fauna. Creation-Evolution Headlines reports on scientists who are doing just that, and discovering the amazing engineering design in nature: Follow the Leader: Plants and Animals.

Recent studies include research on the water-shedding abilities of lotus leaves and gecko toes, using DNA molecules to help develop an electronic nose and studying spider silk with the aim of creating new stronger, more flexible fabrics.

And then there’s energy-producing potential lurking in the lowly cowpie: Bio-inspired: Energy from Cowpies.

Wouldn’t it be great if Prof. Ruxton and his colleagues stopped blowing hot air and did some real science?
